# From the brief to a useful worksheet

This is an authored teaching walkthrough of the supplied answer, not a transcript of an unattended model session. All business facts and the worked enquiry are fictional.

## 1. Read the source, then define completion

[BRIEF.md](BRIEF.md) supplies formats (A3 posters, A5 zines, A6 postcards), run sizes (25–250), one or two spot colours, individual quotes and production details to discuss. It does not supply print-file specifications, an address, a live contact link or turnaround.

The reader's useful task is to assemble an enquiry. We choose a worksheet because the reader needs to record decisions and questions, not memorize a general introduction to printing.

## 2. Ask for actual deliverables

Use the full prompt in [Lesson 4](../../../lessons/free/04-useful-download.md) with Lead Magnet Build. Keep your own results in a separate folder. The request produces editable source, a download description and a check record, with an actual PDF only when creation and inspection are available.

Account access is not a prerequisite for writing the resource. If an exporter is unavailable, complete the source and describe the missing export accurately. Do not replace a missing PDF with a claim that it was attached.

## 3. Inspect the reviewed answer

Open [worksheet-source.md](worksheet-source.md) and [first-print-run.pdf](first-print-run.pdf).

| Source fact / reader need | Design decision in the answer |
| --- | --- |
| The reader needs to explain what they are making | Begin with purpose and intended reader |
| Three supplied formats | Offer those three starting choices without inventing dimensions or production specs |
| Run sizes and colour count | Keep the exact bounds and allow the reader to record an idea |
| Paper, inks and preparation need discussion | Ask open questions instead of declaring availability or requirements |
| Quotes are individual | No invented calculator, price or automatic quote |
| The task is to assemble an enquiry | End with a short reusable enquiry structure |

The clearly labeled example is an A3 poster for a neighbourhood reading event: 50 copies, two colour ideas, artwork in progress. It demonstrates use of the fields; it is not a customer order or testimonial.

## 4. See the kinds of corrections to make

Failed addition: “Supply a 300 DPI CMYK PDF and we'll print within 48 hours.” Neither the production specification nor the timing is supplied. Replace it with a field for artwork readiness and a question about preparation help.

Failed addition: “Choose our most popular paper.” Popularity and a paper inventory are unknown. Ask which paper options the reader would like to discuss.

Weak resource: three paragraphs promoting Margin Press followed by blank boxes. Improve it by making each field help prepare the enquiry and showing one completed example.

Weak handoff: a PDF with no editable source or an unexplained builder. Include the source and explain that this particular builder has separately authored text. A user editing only Markdown must not expect the PDF to change automatically.

## 5. Check the actual export

The included answer is a two-page printable PDF. Inspect both pages: titles, reading order, glyphs, writing space, footer and breaks. Compare its important facts with the source. Rebuilding is optional; [EXERCISE.md](EXERCISE.md) explains the ReportLab route. If you create a new export, check it anew: a prior PDF's review does not cover your edits.

Download description:

> Plan your first small print run: a two-page worksheet for choosing a starting format, noting quantity and colour ideas, and preparing an enquiry. Includes a fictional worked example and editable source.

This describes the delivered resource. It does not promise print-ready artwork, a production slot, a quote or more sales.

## 6. Apply new facts

Complete [CHANGED-BRIEF.md](CHANGED-BRIEF.md) in a fresh context, then inspect [CHANGED-ANSWER.md](CHANGED-ANSWER.md). The task changes both the available products and the output format. Check that the result discards old options and does not claim a PDF export.

Use [the delivery checklist](../../../templates/free/delivery-checklist.md) for your own version. Finish with your editable file, actual export or accurate outstanding-export note, download description and check record. No email capture is required for the worksheet to help its reader.
