# Build a useful client download

Use Lead Magnet Build with BRIEF.md. Create an original resource that helps a reader prepare a print enquiry, rather than a brochure promising sales. The reviewed answer is worksheet-source.md plus the two-page first-print-run.pdf. It has actionable fields, a clearly fictional worked example and a next step without an invented URL.

This complete exercise is included in both editions. Start with [Lesson 4](../../../lessons/free/04-useful-download.md), then follow [the source-to-result walkthrough](WALKTHROUGH.md). The [changed brief](CHANGED-BRIEF.md) and [answer](CHANGED-ANSWER.md) test a new offer and an editable-only delivery.

## Inspect and adapt

Read the PDF at normal size and print preview. Check the writing space, page breaks and whether each field helps the reader make a decision. Use the editable Markdown as the simplest adaptation route. The ReportLab builder controls the supplied PDF's typesetting; it has no connection to the Markdown parser, so edit both if changing the words and rebuilding this exact example.

The included PDF requires no extra software to read. Rebuilding this particular PDF is optional: create a separate Python virtual environment, install the product's requirements-pdf.txt with that environment's Python, then run that same Python executable on build_pdf.py. It writes first-print-run.pdf in this folder, replacing that generated file; preserve your copy first. ReportLab 4.4.9 and the included licensed Space Grotesk font were used for the reviewed export. Other tools can produce a suitable PDF or printable HTML from the editable text; inspect their actual result before delivery.

## Failure and changed input

Failure: add “300 DPI CMYK files accepted”, a free proof, next-day turnaround or a real-looking contact email without a source. None is established by this brief. Repair by preserving known formats/run size and leaving production details for discussion.

Changed input: the client wants an editable digital worksheet and there is no PDF exporter. Complete useful editable source (or self-contained printable HTML), mark PDF export unperformed and give concrete export steps. Do not claim a nonexistent attachment or treat a missing paid design account as a reason to stop writing the resource.

Complete when the actual files exist, the resource helps the stated reader, all business promises come from the brief, export/check status is honest and the file remains useful without joining a mailing list. Capture/consent/integration and publication are later work.

## Download-page copy example

“Plan your first small print run: a two-page worksheet for choosing a starting format, noting quantity and colour ideas, and preparing an enquiry. Includes a fictional worked example.” This describes the file; it does not promise printing results, free production or an automatic quote.

## Origins

Original worksheet text and layout authored for this pack from the fictional brief. Space Grotesk is bundled under the included Open Font License. No source article, third-party worksheet, customer data, reference-site artwork or designer PDF is reproduced.
